Got a call from this number - first it was a robot talking on how they're from IRS and you need to return this call immediatly because of its importance. I called back the number and some male with a thick accent answered sounding like he is on a cell phone. He introduced himself as a IRS agent and asked for my name and Tax ID # - I asked him for his employee number and if he works for state or federal - he said federal but he refused to give me his employee number or any information about him to verify he actually works for IRS. He kept on asking for my name / phone number and tax ID. I ended up hanging up.
There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.
