Received this as a voice mail claiming to be IRS:
4152349729 it was an automated voice message.
"It's from Internal Revenue Service and the hotline to my division is 415-234-9729. I repeat it's 415-234-9729. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Goodbye and take care."

My caller ID shows this call came from Navato CA 415-234-9729.  As reported here by others, it claims to be from the IRS.  It is an automated message with a woman's voice. Voice repeated the phone number and tells you not to disregard the message before they take any action against you. "Goodbye and take care."  How can anyone "take care" with a threatening message like that?  The IRS does not call you and threaten you, instead they'll send a letter.  This is some sort of scam.  The call came in at exactly 9:00 am in the morning EST, and if it's coming from California it's only  6 am there.  It has got to be some robo call scam.  I'll report it on the Do Not Call Registry as well as here and then try and block the number.

Yes it is a scam and a federal crime.  The  do not call registry isn't responsible for anything but Telemarketing.  Even if it were legit they would be exempt as debt collection.   If they didn't attempt to sell you goods,  products,  or services,  the DNC doesn't apply.   BS doesn't qualify as a product.

Yes it is a scam someone should take action, they are making people in panic few of us are there, please do not get panic they just want money from you. I tested them, they told me your case has big fine  but if you settle now your case would be close. You can pay via money transfer or online transaction.  This is all fake, bye take care at the end of the call is weird, this is the big crime using government name illegally

There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Educational post:
This scam is also described as scam #11, here:

Remember to return here, to 800notes.com, after you look at any of the information at that site, either to post more information, or to let us know you avoided the scam, or to read any further information about that number that others may post.
