same message same number scam do not respond IRS contacts via mail not the phone and not with a fake recorded message
this is from a 3rd world lowlife caller probably bought the numbers from home depot or target scam.... warn neighbors and friends contact IRS with all info and do not give these scammers any info
I just received 2 calls from this number in the past few hours. It is a digital computer voice "This is Julie Smith from the Internal Revenue Service. You or your attorney of record must call us at once to take care of an urgent matter. Do not delay or we will be forced to prosecute you" or something like that. And she repeated the # twice 415-234-9729 and clearly said she is from the Internal Revenue Service and the gall to say "take care" at the end.
Has anyone called this # back? I was afraid it would be a toll call and did not try.
Total scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan.

IRS does not cold call anyone and all contacts are initiated by US mail.
DO NOT EVER RETURN THE CALLS. The callers, especially male ones, are often sexually abusive to women when they find out their scams are not working. They are looking for vulnerable people. They tend to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community. If you talk to them and they sense some vulnerability they are apt to hammer you with even more calls. Invest in a call blocker.

IRS does not file lawsuits. Nor does it prosecute. Tax disputes are civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and all contacts are initiated by US mail.
Glad I googled the number and found all you helpful people! I was paniced as someone stated above! But then I figured if the IRS wanted me they would send mail. I didn't think they would call a cell phone.
