have received several call from this number. Area Code - San Francisco CA. left messages saying they are from the IRS and there is a matter that is extreemly urgent and don't ignore their call. When i did call number, the first thing the lady asked was what was my case number and name of attorney. told her she may have the wrong person - I didn't give her my name (she never gave me hers when asked). Never said who she was calling for?? then asked to confirm/verify mistake by giving last 4digits of my SS.- told her she was crazy and should know better since you are the IRS. cant do that she should know better She hung up on me. what kind of scam is this???
Thank goodness for this website. I actually did miss paying my Fed taxes back on Apr 15th due to a miss-communication with my soon-to-be ex wife. After receiving a letter from the IRS, we made the payment to them.
Then today when I was in the bathroom, I received a phone call from 415-251-9782, and I let it go to voicemail since I did not know the number, and I think it is weird to talk with someone while in the bathroom. Anyway, the computerized voice claimed to be Julie Smith from the IRS wanting to discuss back taxes owed. I got really nervous, as Ithought that this was cleared up, and I started to get worried.
So, I called them back, and there was a strange answering machine message that didn't mention anything about the IRS. After the strange message, I decided to "google" the phone# 415-251-9782, and that is what brought me here. I see that this scam started over a month ago, and I can't believe that the government can't shut something like this down within that period of time.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to report this number, as I feel much better now.
I got same call from this number that is noted above. Something about IRS. This is definitely a scam, and have been called on my cell phone other times from different numbers, one from DC area, another one locally. And yes, they are definitely looking to scam you. These guys should be reported.
Recorded message stating the matter is extremely sensitive and either myself or my retained attorney should phone the office of June Smith of the Internal Revenue Service immediately. I don't owe any money to the IRS. I believe this to be a scam call.
