He gave us this number, and I was able to call it up and talk to one of the heavy accented persons working at this scam sham. The number is a Liverpool, NY / Syracuse, NY area code: 315-944-2628. My wife treated them like the Nigerian princes seeing if they would send 100k to get 2 million. I basically spoke really loudly and told them I couldn't hear them a number of times telling them to speak up. At one point in all of shenangians, this guy said do you think I am a fool? And at another point, when he said there was a problem with my computer. I said holy s*** really loud. My wife almost peed her pants, because she was laughing so hard.
Wow its crazy how far back this number goes with scams they aren't saying anything about computer something about a loan not being paid. These people have been calling my job non stop looking for my boss' said he was the California FBI, when I told them he wasn't here they asked for my personal information i refused and hung up. He called right back and ask why I hung up and that if I hung up again I would be arrested. He proceeded to ask for my location (street address and all that stuff) I refused again and asked to speak to someone else because I was having trouble understanding what he was saying (sounded Indian) and he said no. So after every word he said I asked to speak to his supervisor. This went on for about ten minutes then things got out of hand. He started to ask over and over again if he could f*** me then hung up. I called the number back and got an automated service I didn't have an extension son I waited and the same man answered the phone. I told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor right now, he asked for my name so I gave him a fake one. He said OK one moment and hung up on me, but had the nerve to call back saying I kept calling his phone. I told him I called once and I called to complain and I wanted the supervisor. He said he was the man in charge, I said good your just the man I wanted to talk to. He put me on hold again and hung up, hasn't called back yet. So if you keep getting a call from this number just keep asking for a supervisor and don't answer a single question.They will leave you alone:-).
Got a call of the same sort. They asked me to turn on the computer. When I told them it was up and running they asked what windows operating system I was using. I told him it was Ubuntu. He asked if there were any other computers in the house and I said no. He seemed really confused. I said after purchase I removed Windows and put Ubuntu on. He said sorry he had a wrong number and hung up.
A man with an Indian-sounding accent called this afternoon, asking for my husband. He said that our "home computer" had been "hijacked" and that "everything on it" was now in the hands of a "large server coming out of New York." He spoke in circles, never answering my questions. Finally, he told me his name was "John Joneson" and that he worked for an "affiliate" of Microsoft and that I should go and sign onto my home computer. Suspecting this was a scam, I asked him what this would cost, and he said, "There is no charge whatsoever. We will help you to remove the malware virus from your computer."
I thanked him and hung up, knowing by then that if I'd gotten onto the computer and let him "talk me through fixing things" I would be giving him access to my computer.
Well, the dude called back TWO MORE TIMES in that hour. He must have thought he heard something in my voice that said I might crack. I finally said, "Bug off, [***]" and he hasn't called back.
His number is 213-342-8591. Please tell your elderly friends and relatives about this. I can see how someone might fall for this.
