I got a call from this # on Sat @ 4am. They left an auto recorded message saying they were the IRS. I called back at 6:50AM on a Saturday and someone that sounded like they were in a call center in India answered. She asked for my name which I gave then she proceded to tell me that my taxes were not paid in full and that I was being audited for 2006-2011 for unpaid taxes. When I tried to talk she got upset and said "can I please finish"..which made me realize that she was reading a script and was not that great at improv. I let her talk..then at the end of her scary story of all the $ I owe them.. I told her what the hell are you talking about? I dont owe taxes. She asked me why. I said " I have never made enough $ to have to pay taxes and I have 4 kids! She said.. Oh let me call you back. If she call's back I'm going to start speaking Punjabi to her.
Received an automated call from these people that was so awful it was hard to understand. The gist of the message was that if I didn't call back I risked facing penalties.
This was another call from the "IRS". They called me once before an I blocked the previous number. Its a voice mail, borderline threatening you, to call so the IRS doesn't take action against you. 1) The IRS communicates with audited folks via mail, and do not call. 2) If you call the number it routes you to a foreign call center. My guess would be India based on the accent. This is a scam, and they use switchboard technology to make the call appear as if its from the US in San Francisco, but they are indeed not within the US.
If you have concerns I would see your local IRS office, but my taxes are professionally done each year. The IRS would first contact HR block before reaching out to me, and the IRS serves such notices in the mail... For a legal record purpose. Do not give any personal information to these crooks, and you can report the harassment and number to the IRS at there official website. Thank you.
