The recorded message said they "have received a complaint (about me)" and if I "want to know the nature of the complaint call 866-xxx-xxx or press 9" my complaint # is xxxxxxx. Very strange. I did not call.
I received a recorded phone call this morning from 415 802 2986- "A complaint has been file about you, if you want more details about complaint, please call 888-502-0273". I did not call any of the numbers because legitimate businesses do not hide behind disguised phone numbers and recodings as such. Although, I must say it is rather disturbing to learn from patrons on this forum that these criminals have our Social Security numbers and addresses.
I am sure these calls are made through internet generated phone numbers.
I called this number back and got "Toll Free Forwarding.com" and then a message saying this number was no longer in service. Nonsense. They called me today. Something's up. Second call like this I got today. I really hate these people...there has to be a way to scam them back somehow.
Got a call from this number today, same as many of these posts...a recording saying someone has filed a complaint in your name press 9 to find out more or call 888-506-8137, my complaint # was XXXXXXX. I callled the 888 number and a guy had my current address and said I had an outstanding debt with Montgomery Ward from 20+ years ago and now Sears owned them and was collecting. After I explained that was settled many years ago he hung up. Must be a scam.
Zombie Debt well past the statute of limitations for litigation. This is illegal to misrepresent that the debt is able to be litigated. Also threatening jail or prosecution is illegal. Threaten them with a lawsuit.
Most states creditors (credit cards) have 3 years to sue you after the first missed payment. The first missed payment is the day that the sol clock starts to tick.
Do not admit to the debt because it could toll the statute and start the 3 years all over.
