Actually I think that it is 3 years after the last payment if there is no further activity on the account.
A company actually tried to collect after 14 years from one of my relatives...doubled the original debt, wouldn't
provide any documentation, threatened jail time..you name it. Of course, I put a stop to it.
Don't ever provide documentation, or data to these criminals.
I got a call from this number stating it was a collection company regarding an account from Citibank and then clarified that it was originally with Sears. Asked For me by name and then asked for me to verify the last four digits of my social security number and my current mailing address... I told them I don't give out that information over the phone to someone I don't know, And I offered to provide it if they would send me an email requesting it... They said that they could not do that and they hung up. Never give out that information over the phone to anyone that calls you, especially a debt collector! Also, the last time I had an account with Sears was 2004.... This account is over nine years old! Remember that the statute of limitations for collecting on a charge account is four years from the date of last activity (i..e. the last time you charged something or the last time you made a payment). While it may stay on your credit report for seven years, they cannot collect it from you in court after four years... But always get legal advice before telling them to pound sand!!!
They called claiming they were KMS litigation and my name was listed as a reference for a Karen Funk. I told them I did know her and why didn't their number show up as to a location when they called ? The lady was rude to me and said that I was listed as a contact for Karen Funk. She said since you do not know her , do not worry about it. In the message, the said they needed verifying information for me to be sent important documentation. Strange. No info from me !!
I keep getting calls from this number. I have never spoken to them. I called the number once and a recording said he was Pete Martzelli (sound) and said please hold on for transfer. Is there any way to stop their calls? Can we report them?
