I contacted CIBC Visa, who apparently hire this group to contact numbers on a rotary dial unit. They will log requests ot to be contacted, but indicated it would be a minimum 30 days for my request to take effect. There's no answer when you first pick up because it's an automatic dialler. When they get a 'hit' or connceted call, it's routed to an operator. They're paid by the successful hits, so will short list your number till they're calling every 20-30 minutes.
Additional place to complain - Canadian Marketing Association - they log complaints for these situations, and will respond to the offending company if they receive enough complaints - 416-391-2362. They've told me they've received many complaints about this number, and need more people to call.
How annoying. Fortunately I have been away for two weeks and did not have to listen to this ring as I refuse to answer out of province calls. If it is important they can leave a message. Past 5:30 on May 10th and they haven't called. Wow, maybe they have given up.
