After 30-40 calls to my home, someone finally had the guts to say anything. The [***] telemarketer had a thick, hasty East Indian accent and rushes through his questions. Here was the word-for-word conversation, and I suggest you follow suit (if you are so lucky to find someone who has the guts to answer the phone on their own call, it took 40 tries in my case), as I have since not had a call in the past week.
Me: Hello? (Pause 3 seconds) Hello? (Pause) Hello? ...about to hang up...
[***]: ...10 seconds later... Are you owner of house?
Me: Yes
[***]: You need duct cleaning.
Me: (Speaking very slowly and clearly). Just had it done. Ducts were cleaned last week. OK for next 10 years.
[***]: You need duct cleaning. We have special 50% off.
Me: I don't need it, I just had the ducts cleaned last week.
[***]: When you have cleaning?
Me: Last week. Don't need cleaning. Take me off your list. Stop calling. I repeat, stop calling.
[***]: Click.
Got a call a few minutes ago from the 416-277-1688, no one on the line. Called back, got the answering m/c. Registered a complaint as I am also on the do not call list.
I like the "give them another duct cleaning address idea"! Also, in the past I have resorted to having a whistle nearby for persistent callers! That usually works!
I saw 416-277-1688 on display, and picked up, apparently "Henry" from air duct cleaning. I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST. I called the number back and it was a residence of someone else. They are obviously using a fake number for display.
If you are with Rogers, you can trace the number if they call more than 5 times in a business week. That is legally harassment and they can be charged. Dial *57 after the call (as long as it is before the next phone call) and a trace will be done for $5 each time you use it. You will only be charged if the call can be traced, then it can be forwarded to the police
I get several calls per month from Air Duct Cleaning Services. They use all sorts of numbers. Sometimes a (416) number, other time 1800 numbers. One time I dialled *69 to get the number because the operator had called back to cuss at me when I told him
I didn't want duct cleaning,
that I'm no the National Do Not Call List so they shouldn't be calling me,
and that I want them to remove my name from their call list.
The automated response was "the last number that called your line was (000) 000-0000. I've reported to the Do Not Call registry many times but nothing ever gets done. Always operators with strong East Indian accents so although you may have a local address, the call centre is probably bounced from India.
Since this operator was rude and threatening, I called the phone company to get the number of the last caller so I could report them, but they said I had to put a trace and call the police. I did what they instructed and called the police. The police basicaly told me they had better things to do than phone the phone company for the number, and that the phone company should give me the number directly without involving the police.
