I got a call a few min ago. I didn't answer and they left a message I then checked them out on the web. I found out about the scam and am now reporting them. Thank you for helping us get these people.
I woke up and found out someone called me 6 times in 3 hours, and then left a 3 second voicemail that sounded like a party. (no southern accent btw)
They called again, and it was a lady that seemed to be yelling into the phone, that i had won a $1,000 online shopping spree, that had been chosen for my good standing with the "publisher" and with "visa or mastercard. you do have one of those right?" i said yes. they told me i'd pay $5 something for US weekly and get good housekeeping and something else. they asked when i was born because "that's how we sort our winners" and she asked if i was 18 (i lied and said yes) and she asked if i had a job. i said no. she asked if I babysat or anything like that. I said no. she asked how i would pay the $5 a month. i said i'd ask mom. then she said "thankyouforyourtime" and hung up. ha. yeah cause if I did have a job, I was gonna spend my hard earned teen money on good housekeeping. pssh.
the weird part is she knew what state I lived in and my name.
theycalled me too, same accent same 500 she made me dizzy with everyhting she said, i had to pay $2.30 weekly wich comes to $9.97 per month, so i had to do 20 payments, and enjoy the magazine suscriptions for 60 moth plus a $500 shopping online certificate. They ask for my number of card since they had the last 4 numbers of my account! so i thought it was something real since they had that information and also had my adress, so they recorded my voice when asking questions like how many magazines you will recieve and all that so i was agree at that point i didnt see it was a rip off, i know, i was just being stupid so i gave them the card number and i was charge with $49.90 so i called back to cancel that whole thing cuz then i realize that at the end i would be paying $598 for the 20 month and i dont have that money! so i wanted to cancel and she said she could not cancel, she could make changes but not cancel and if i didnt make the payments they will take me to court and everything, i cancel my card in the bank, so they wont be able to charge me, but now i dont know, if that is truth and since they have my voice in a recorded thing well, i dont know, im a little scared but i cant pay that and they never said it was a contract and i didnt sign anything... But still dont know what to do...
I had a number call me that was from mountain area communications also in Sneedville,TN. They gave me the whole 500 dollar spree thing too. but the number was 4237331408 and the ladies said their names were Julie Collins and Angela Johnson. I called that number back to get a fax number and they gave me a fake one, so i reported them to the better business bureau and the state attorney office. i didnt give them any info. thank god. but this has to stop cause to moms, young kids, and young adults like me who to us 500 is a lot. everybody needs to report to their state attorneys so these people can be stoped.
