This happened to me today how stupid am i to fall for it..i am canceling my account tomorrow...its there anyway possible that they could have gotten my social security number from the bank?? I don't want them trying to attempt identity theft.
I CANCELLED MY CARD TOO! IS THIS GOING TO MAKE THEM STOP CHARGING ME? I GOT THE BILL IN THE MAIL TODAY AND TRIED CALLING BUT OF COURSE NO ANSWER! WILL I GET IN TROUBLE IF I DON'T PAY FOR THEM?
they called me today (8/3/09) i fill out surveys online and 1 of them was to be entered in a $1000 visa contest so i fell for it. they had my full name, number and address. they chit-chat with you and i also talked to 3 women. the process was the same as all the above. afterwards i decided to google the number ( 1(866)900-2719) and i just so happen to fall into this sit. i immediately went to the bank and canceled my card and got a new acct. number for safety not even a 1/2 hr after the last phonecall. i did the whole online banking thing and i was charged $39.90 about 1/2 hr later.
I called my bank again, and being that the transaction was pending they had a hold on the money. So now basically i have to wait and see if it goes through and if it does, i'll have to file a claim with the bank so they can refund me.
So I just got woken up at 10:00AM by these guys (yeah I sleep late, so what...). They said they were a company called "Publisher's House" and that I had won a $1,000 prize. I skeptically asked how and why and they said it was because my credit/debit was in good standing. But I'm as curious as anyone else when someone mentions $1,000 so I said ok. She asked if I was still the card holder. So I asked her, what card? Do you know any of the numbers? She said she had zero information in front of her. I said I have a card and she moved on from there. Then she says, "We need to know your age and occupation to ensure we don't send you anything 'inappropriate'". So I politely told her to get F@#!ed and that was that.
