Called with a sweepstakes winner announcement. Offered a package of 7 magazines over 60 months for $16 a month. Would not send information first / bill through mail, only would take credit card details over the phone.
They called me on my cell this morning and said i had won a $500 dollar gift certificate. They asked me how old I was but not for my birth date, and where i was working and if my monthly income was over 1000 dollars a month. I told them because I had just entered some sweepstake stuff and they said that i would recieve the gift certificate in the mail. Could they steal my identity? I dont make over $1000 dollars a month so do you think they wont bother with me if they had enouch information?
I am letting everyone know that i received calls just today (May 27, 2008) from the same number claiming that i won $500 Worth of Gift Certificates which i can claim on-line and also offered me with free magazines. After the initial call, they called back again asking for the Expiry Date of my CREDIT Card number which of course i didn't give...WHy would I? If indeed i won, all they have to do is mail the said certificate afterall, they know my address and even my full name. Isn't it scary how people these days can trace your whereabouts and call you? Guys, Be Careful with this number...
mountain area communications sells magazines, they are magazine telemarketers, that is just the way it is, if we were charging people and not sending the magazines do you not think the company would be closed by now? Go ahead and research us, because the service they provide isn't in any way illegal, just because it seems fishy or inconvenient to you.
no, they wont steal your identity, they said they would send it to be nice, checking accounts and that income are required qualifications. So you weren't even eligible.
