Ugh! I just created a domain for a class using iHost/Plesk and made the mistake of not paying for the privacy right away. On the same day I crated the odmain, i belatedly requested the add-on, but it's taken a while. Since I created the domain I have been inundated with emails and phone calls. Very annoying and frustrating
Well they dont' sell it - it's out there for the whole world to see - what the purchase of domain privacy does is hide your phone number from the whois registry.
I have received multiple calls from this number over the last few days. I bought a domain name, then they started. Once, they actually left a message. It was incomprehensible, though, sounding as if it were a pocket call. I could hear a male voice in the background, but nothing I could understand. I've blocked the number now.
You all need to stop blaming GoDaddy. If you don't get private registration, they legally have to use your information. That information is available to anybody to view, but not because of GoDaddy, because of ICANN. Whether you used GoDaddy or not, you're gonna get these calls if you don't get private registration.
yes, Scott, they can, but we're talking brand new domains. you cannot just use a whois look up, as far as i am aware, to find who registered a domain within the last day, or last week etc. you could do this with software that you had built, or you can purchase sales history from these domain companys, I just got a call too, and the domain I registered was set to private. so even if they used a whois they wouldn't have my contact info. they had to scrap this info, as I doubt GoDaddy would sell my info especially after paying for privacy.
