972-428-5200 - is Certified Payment Processing - They continue to call and hang up several times a day. This number will be reported to the police as well!!! I tried to call them back to tell them to stop calling but i can't get ahold of an operator.
Of course they got angry. They didn't count on encountering an educated and sophisticated consumer who knows they cannot collect a dime on an UNVALIDATED debt.
If you have the name of the debt collector and an address, send them a notarized, certified letter saying they can not call you at your job. Tell them it is causing you problems and you can not get numbers there. That is the legal way to do it and they HAVE to stop calling you.
1) yes it's a collection agency. I had an unpaid accountnow card. I also am a debt collector, just not with this company. I spoke to a woman that tried to strong arm me and I ended up hanging up on her. I called back and asked for a manager. His name was Chris... didn't catch the last name. He was professional and decent so I worked out an arrangement with him.
2) Btw, I hear this all the time... the DO NOT CALL LIST does not apply to collections. Collections is for contractual obligations that have broken. Not to sell you merchandise or run surveys. When someone tells me they're on the do not call list, I tell them that that is a good thing to be on, so I am. It has nothing to do with a collection call though.
3) S.M - If they really do call at 5am, simply take the call log down to the local court house and file a small claims against them. It's $1000 per violation (FDCPA) in most states. That's easy money for you. The only way it wouldn't be a violation is if your phone area code is in a different time zone then where you are located and if you didn't inform them of such.
4) Pam - India? I research all companies before I pay and never saw any relation to them in India. They use there own dialer system and are located in the US.
5) David - if it's a collection agency in regards to the debt, then they can't be law give you any information. No one notes collection agencies for doing the right thing, only the occassional bad. Well, I'll make note of it... good job on the no 3rd party disclosure!
