This exact thing happened to my mother today about unpaid taxes on a Sears card! He said the same threats verbatim but just used a different "loan" type.
We got a simular call about me being a person of interest from a " Mr.Lee." he was uninformed with wrong last marital name and said it had to do with a ssi# and would be in touch. Scam! Do not let these people know your info .
my 73 year old mother got a call almost exactly like this today from a man calling himself Mr. Lee. said she owed over $5000 to discover card. When I spoke up to him, he asked who I was, told him her daughter and he had my ssn# and information also. He claimed that they have been trying to contact via mail and phone, which she has had no such thing and that he was going to freeze her account if she didn't present him with some type of payment by 5pm today. I then called him back to get an account number and he gave me the run around and never the account number. I have since contacted the police, credit bureaus, bank and no such thing has ever been on her credit. Be aware.
