in the past several days I have got multiple strange phone calls which did not speak if I answered and did not leave any message if the answering machine answered. And one of these calls obviously implanted or activated one virus on my computer which is connected to the internet through the same line as the phone.
From the behaviour of these phone calls we can conclude that these calls were from computers which mean there was no human beings holding a phoneset on the other side of the line. The calls were from computers so that any virus or spyware could be sent during the phone call.
Now, besides implanting or activating virus on your computer through these phone calls, what worries me more is that they might actually implant some spyware on receiver's home phone systems.
These days a lot people are using various kinds of digital phone systems with some intelligent circuits. If the digital intelligence of your phone system is not rewritable, which means the intelligent logics are burnt to some unrightable chips permanently, then you might not need to worry anything about it. However, if the digital intelligence can be reset or rewritable, then those malicious people could actually implant some malicious intelligence on your phone system, which we don't know what it would be!
The best we should bet is that they would not actually taping your phone calls. Is that possible? Theoretically I think it is not impossible because nowadays telephone messages are sent in digital forms which are not much different from computer email message in principle. Therefore, if you think spyware could intercept your email and steal your email message, then spyware could intercept the digital signals of your phone calls.
I just received the same type call. I answered my phone and the other end hung up without saying anything. I checked the number online and found this site. I also recently looked online for health insurance. I tried to call back to get my number removed but only got busy signals. Guess they are calling other people. I wish businesses couldn't random call like this.
I am also getting calls from this no on my cell phone.and they dont leave any msg.Finally i get to know lot of ppl r getting call from this no.Till i dont know any thing about this no.
I received the same call today from 478-285-6517 as I have several times in the last month or so. After reading this blog I filed a complaint on the DoNotCall site ( https://www.donotcall.gov/ ). It would probably be a good idea for anyone receiving these calls (and any other unsolicited calls for that matter) on this site. Not certain if it will cause the calls to stop but at least it would create an official record of their activity.
Note: In order to file a valid complaint, the number being called must have been placed on the donotcall list for AT LEAST 31 days.
Recently, I recd a couple of calls from this number. They didn't leave a message. Number is from Eastman, GA. A couple of months ago, I applied for health ins online.
