A call came in today 6/04/09 at 12;45 PM to my home phone in 727 area code Florida. No message left on answering machine but it sounded as if a person was on the other end listening. I am also on the NO Call list and I have never contacted a funeral home in Oregon.
Got call from this number, caller ID said FPC. Didn't leave a message.
I tried calling back and got the 'desk of Laura Nelson'. I didn't leave a message either.
This call is from a company that helps people pre-plan their funerals. From what I understand, they partner with funeral homes across the country, but their call center is in Oregon. When they call, it is on behalf of whatever local funeral home they are working with in your area. Since your contact information came from a legitimate source (i.e. the funeral home), the requirements of the Do Not Call list do not apply. They offer materials for those coping with loss and how to avoid leaving family members/friends with the stress of planning your funeral. Just thought you might like to know, since it seems there are a lot of ideas floating around here.
Yep I got one of these today, and I realize now only 2 days after my mother passed they called me in a very vulnerable hour and said someone from the funeral home would like to come by my house and give me materials that would make this time easier to bear. If I had known or had the where with all to realize this was an appointment setter to sell me funeral arrangements, I'd have torn into her like it was nobody's business. This is a most appauling business practice and I dont' care how they got my number...they need to go away! I will be contacting my local funeral home and lodging a serious complaint.
