CBE Group is a collection agency for the US Dept of Education. That is the reason they are calling to gather information, because the information provided back in college for a student loan is probably not the same now. They are horrible, absolutely horrible. They called me three times a day, every day during my recovery from a crainiotomy, after being provided the information verbally and send hard copies of court documents (by lawyers and the court). And they were warned of the medical condition and told to cease and desist by the court, which obviously they didn't.
In my case, Dept of Education did not have a valid debit, this has been going on since 1998. I have had lawyers and a court involved, Dept of Ed has been found in violation of a court order by continuing to attempt this debt collection. BUT they have "Sovereign Immunity" which basically means they can harrass you until the day you die without any reprecussions. CBE on the other hand is not afforded such luxuries, I am currently seeking a lawsuit against CBE now.
Good luck trying to get away from these guys. The FTC said they couldn't do anything, and the State Attorney Office didn't really respond with enthusiasm. From what I was told, these entities don't want to bothered unless it's a civil action thing....numerous complaints from mutliple people making it financially lucritive for the FTC or State Attorney's to pursue it. The all mighty dollar.
I started also getting callz from that same number .But I dont answer they still call.
I'm thinking oc changing my number.
also if you have a facebook. you need to check and make sure your phone numbers are not on your face book account. and check your security settings where only people you know are the only ones that can see your face book. if your settings are checked " Public" Any one can get on your face book and could even contact one of your friends to attempt getting your phone numbers. these crooks use face book to find peoples phone numbers and other information.
I am called by these... people 3 or 4 times a day. I answered once and heard a recorded voice asking this call was for some name I have never heard of. I hung up. There was no company name given. They just called again a few minutes ago.
