"Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin and I'm calling regarding an enforcement action executed by US Treasury and sending you see this attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge for brent-to(?) me for a federal criminal offense. My number is 530-405-3815. I repeat 530-405-3815. I'd like you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thank you."
10 am Monday, Feb. 9, 2015: Message left on my answering machine from Steve or Dean Martin. Male voice with Asian-British accent. He said action by US Treasury to seize my pension if I failed to respond. Further, this would be a second offense if I avoided contact with him resulting in federal criminal action.
Not a very credible threat given foreign accent with British overtones to his spoken English. But I do not like being threatened. Is there anybody out there to bring down a little federal criminal action on these scamming scumbags before some vulnerable person loses his/her savings?
I received the exact same message at 8:43 am (EST) this morning from "Steve Martin," but from a different telephone number, 559-836-5846. I posted a message, giving that number, here on 800Notes, and I also reported the call to the FCC and the Department of Justice. You can see the links to report to those and other organizations by scrolling down to the "Latest Articles" box and clicking on "Where to Report Phone Crime." Perhaps you can do that with the number he used to reach you. I am concerned that this latest scam seems to imply the caller is from the government and he is threatening legal action; I think that qualifies as impersonating a federal officer. (My clever husband found your posting to this other number; it may be that Steve or anyone else using that alias, is using many different numbers to call his victims.)
Apparently this scam has been going on for a while; I found some forum posts online by googling "Steve Martin telemarketing scam."

Sept. 9 I received 5 calls throughout the day that all went to Voice Mail. Each voice mail was exactly the same, recorded by someone with a heavy accent and poor grammar. Receiving my voice mails by email, this is the exact message:
"Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin and I'm calling regarding an enforcement actions executed by US Treasury intending(?) your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an additional check in at the White initial appearance before magistrate judge or a graduate for a federal criminal offense. My number is 818-338-2962. I repeat 818-338-2962. I'd like you to cooperate with others and helpers to help you. Thank you." I immediately recognized it for a scam but am concerned for those who may not. The repeated calls were a nuisance factor.

Funny....Steve Martin has called me from Beverly Hills Ca twice today leaving very threatening messages. Same US Treasury threats. I evidently will be required to appear in front of a magistrate Judge and then the Grand Jury. Phone number he is using now is 424-245-8236
