I re-dialed the 530 number just because I was curious (I realize that the IRS does not conduct business this way). I got the same guy - heavy Indian (?) accent - who left the message. He said a warrant was being issued for my arrest for under-reporting my income. I laughed and he said "the officers are on their way" then he hung up. Very bizarre. He said he worked for the Justice Department. I'm guessing that if I had shown any concern, he would have told me we could "settle up" by supplying a credit card number!!
This number leaves a message that the IRS needs to contact you. They say ignoring it will require facing a grand jury. and a federal offense. The IRS does not contact by phone.
I also just received a call from this number from a man with an indian accent telling me it was very important to call another number (which I didn't write down) and I shouldn't ignore it or it would be very bad. I believe it was a recorded message.

I got a call saying they were trying to reach me (they did not use a name) and that it was the Department of Treasury. This was the second attempt and that failure to respond would result in me having to go before a judge (or something like that). I called the number they left on my machine (213) 293-3920 but it is an invalid phone number. I called the (530) 419-3982 number and they said it was the Department of Treasury and asked me for my name. I said, this is the US Treasury? They said, "Yes. What is your name?" I said, "Let me get your name first." The man said an Indian name . When I asked him to repeat it, he hung up. Just called again and said, "This is Chris Evans and I represent the Department of Treasury." I said, "What Department of Treasury?" He hung up.
