Got two calls from this number today, but it shows up as +5305591657. No messages left either time. I dont want to answer it because Im afraid its some type of scam attempting to get my information.
I receive a call from this number and they telling me that they have pick my name out of 750 for government free money and when I ask them to give me a phone number so I can call back they would tell me that after the finish asking the question they will give me the number two the manager. And when I go the number back that show on my caller ID it says it out of order.
I started getting calls this past Monday.... I'm up to 21 numbers this week, with the one shown here being the most recent... when they speak, they are all Indian, and I can barely understand them... some have insisted I applied for a loan, and one wanted to talk to me about my grant to go back to school (I've not applied for either, and this jerk wants to ARGUE with me about it?!?!?!?). I think it's all from the same origin and that they are pining phone numbers around the country (that would explain why when the caller above called back, it was a non-working number)... sure would be nice to not have to change my number, but I'm seriously considering doing just that...
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
I received 2 calls from the this number. The first time I didn't answer. The second time I did and the man said I can get $7500 and I don't have to pay it back. I told him I wasn't interested. He said "WHAT?" Are you kidding? I hung up after that.
