Says he was from the narcotics association, after telling him I have recently lost my job he persists on trying to make me make a donation. Then tried the sad story of his wife losing her job too. This guy sounded high or drunk...I'm thinking SCAM!!!
We also got this call saying we've donated in the past, it's possible as I do donate to worthy organizations...but they ask for your debit card information, making me skeptical. I have an email out to the PA Narcotics Officer Association to see if this call from 570-763-4685 is legit and connected to them. I will post once I hear back. Caller ID said LOCAL CALL which is obviously was not as I don't live in 570 area code.
A registered ( doesn't mean legit ) non profit. ( This is so they can avoid the DNC list of rules.) Check out the PA state Non profit register for more info. These clowns took in $750,000 last year. Over $400,000 spent on advertising, $100,000 for the "Directors" salary and less than 70,000 sent on "training" programs for officers. Where's the rest? This is NOT a government agency. It is a telemarketer operating under the guise of a non profit "helping" to train officers! WHAT? Legit officers get all their training from the state at taxpayers expense. The "Director" actually works for the Montgomery County Prosecutors Office as an investigator. They should be investigating him! When they call I tell them I'm not interested and they STILL keep calling so now I tell them to hold on while I get my credit card and then just lay the phone down. See how long they will wait before hanging up. My personal best is 25 minutes! Don't waste your money. Your not helping any officers by donating to this scam. If you want to help, stick with KNOWN real organizations, Like your local police and fire widows fund or something like the Hero Scholarship Fund that REALLY help officers and their families.
Before you donate ( and thus put yourself on every telemarketers list.( ( They DO sell lists to each other of rubes that actually give. ) Remember this. 90% of what you give goes to the advertising ( salary of those telemarketers calling you ) and the salary of the "Director" only ten percent ( or less ) actually goes to the charity. This applies to all those out there, United Way, Purple Heart Veterans, Donate your Car for Kids and Pennsylvania State Narcotics officer's Association. ALL OF THEM! With this particular "charity" and I use that term loosely, the ten percent is used for officer training. What they actually do is have seminars for a hand full of officer they know to "document". the requirement that there be a real charitable use. I know many officers in Pennsylvania, a hand full in state narcotics investigations and NONE of them have every heard of or have been invited to make use of any "training" by this organization. I will be adding more info as I gather it.
