It is the American Diabetes Assn. I called the number back. It was an automated response. You can enter your phone number and it will be removed from their call list within 30 days (by law). They say they hope to have it removed in the next couple of days.

I called the number back and was able to opt out.  If it works, then this is great!  For those that get hacked off about these calls: remember, the computer has your number and is dialing it.  That telemarketer is only on the other end to read the script.  I really like this system of being able to opt out of charities that I cannot afford to support (or wish not to).  And on another note, according to the Attorney General of KY's website, ADA is only getting an estimated 15 cents out of every dollar donated; the rest goes to the telemarketer.  So you have to give $6.67 for ADA to get $1.00.  Also, 4 cents of every dollar ADA gets goes to administrative costs and 73 cents goes to program costs (whatever that is).  The CEO makes about 400K a year.

Livid!!
I get calls from this number daily, several times a day for the last several weeks, and they hang up without speaking.  I have now called 1-800-DIABETES (American Diabetes Association) and told them to stop the calls!!  He was pleasant and said it would take 24-48 hrs for my number to be removed from their call list.  This had better work.  I am outraged at the number of calls and they always hang up on me without a word!  What kind of racket is this??

I just did the same thing so I hope it works. These kinds of calls really tick me off and I, too, will not donate again.

I doubt that the American Diabetes Association would seek pledges in this random and annoying way. This is a phishing operation, maybe by a debt collector, or phone listing organization. They are trying to get you to confirm your contact information. If you answer and/or call them back you are doing just that.

You probably had some sort of debt issues within the last few months or years, or they would not be trying to track down and confirm this information.

My suggestion would be that everyone call the numbers back from pay phones, tell them your name is John Smith and you want them to keep calling.
