Have had these scam calls from 607 271-9258 6 or 7 times before. These jerks
just wont give up. They know that I know they are scammers but will not take
my name off of there calling list. This time it was a female who insisted she was
from Microsoft. At least the other jerk said he was with a company that worked with Microsoft.
They want to put my computer into safe mode and then sell be a scam protection program before
they give me back control of my computer. Stay away from these scammers. They are bad news.
This is similar to another number 315-215-1087 in the United States. Same Indian kind of an accent, poor telephone skills, somewhat noisy telephone connection. Claimed that they had received a warning from my PC that it was infected. And in fact, my PC had become infected that morning and they telephoned the evening of the infection leading me to think they were responsible for the malware that was downloaded into my PC by accident.
This was my experience with these people.
One morning, my wife visited a web site looking for travel information for Italy. When she tried to click a link for bus schedules, a message dialog displayed requesting a download. She accepted the download and nothing seemed to happen. As she went to another page, suddenly a dialog displayed claiming that an internet virus had been found. Several small windows displayed warning of virus and a problem.
She phoned me, I told her to not click anything and to leave it and I would deal with it in a bit. She did unplug the router to the DSL.
I got home at lunch time and was careful to not click on any of the windows displayed. The quality of the graphics and the presentation looked unprofessional and unlike the anti-virus and anti-intrusion that I had installed. The PC was unable to do anything so I was unable to start my standard malware software.
I rebooted the PC bringing it up in Safe Mode with Networking. I was then able to run my standard malware software, MalwareBytes

which found the software that was causing the problem. I also checked the settings in the msconfig application (link to Microsoft documentation below or do a google on it)

which is a standard Microsoft Utility and found that a new application had been added to my startup. I disabled that so that it would not automatically run when the PC rebooted.
I then rebooted the PC, ran MalwareBytes again after updating the database, then followed up with Microsoft Security essentials

and then Spybot Search and Destroy after updating its database

After taking the above steps, I believe that my PC was cleaned up.
That evening around 5pm, my wife received a telephone call from Emanual PC Care. They left this telephone number and when I got home, I returned the call. Their English was pretty bad and the timing of their call with the installation of the malware seems to me that the malware is from them.
There is no way that I would let these people do anything to my PC. The above applications are standard applications and available on the web so I suggest you take a look at them.
Spybot indicates that the particular malware my wife downloaded was from a company in Germany.
Got a call from this number in the fine upstate NY town of Elmira yesterday. The lovely man with a heavy Fallujian accent said he needed my credit card info to clean-up a virus in my computer. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about so I happily gave him my info. I figure since I have all that money coming to me from that man I helped move some funds for in Nigeria, I could afford to get this virus cleared-up.
I sure hope he gets rid of it for me. Now I just need to get the nephew I've never met out of trouble in a prison somewhere in Mexico. Just wired them $1,000. Wish me luck!
Just got a call from NY with the number 607 271 9258 and they claimed they were a software company, telling us that they noticed that our computer was getting error reports and they worked with Microsoft/ Windows. They said they wanted to help us and when I asked a question about the company, the women (with a accent, saying her name was Rose) hung up.
Just got a call from this number 607-271-9258 says it is from New York on caller id said I had a problem with my internet and it was at risk I am fairly stubborn when it comes to these calls said if he had all that info just snail mail me the problem and I would go from there.
