I got one today too! The man claimed I had a lawsuit against me from the IRS, it was a period of 4 years and that it was 1763.00. He had a very thick Indian accent and there was a lot of noise in his background, I told him that I had trouble understanding him and he got irate with me and told me I was being recorded and to stop interrupting him. WOW. I told him that I have received nothing in the mail, he told me that information had already been sent 3 times to my home, I asked for the dates, he put me a fast hold and gave me a date in January that was a Sunday, long story short, after arguing with him that if he were indeed the IRS, they could surely send another notice and work out payments. I hung up. This scared me, he had good tactics but after he informed they would not send me another...buh-bye.
Got a call saying that they were technical support for my Windows PC. I said I had no Windows computer, which cause them to hang up promptly. When you call back the number it says it is disconnected. Shady!
Yup just received 2 calls from these idiots (east indian decent) claiming they were from Microsoft Windows and that my computer has a virus and they could help me fix it. Wanted me to go on my computer but skeptical as i am i screamed at them, 'where are you from?' 'how did you get my phone number?' and yelled not to call back (which they haven't). The first number was Unknown and the second was 607-527-8802. i also reported them to our Canadian Fraud Org.
Bogus call from "Microsoft Windows" or "Windows Tech Support" by an east indian male who sounds like he's calling from a busy Laundromat. Wasn't listening much after that. The scam is they claim your computer has errors or viruses and is sending messages to them at Microsoft about it. They will try to get you to cooperate to allow them remote access to your computer. What they will do is some hogwash to make it look like they are fixing stuff - but they do not - and what's worse they can either leave a backdoor on your machine (for future, secret access) or possibly encrypt your hard drive and hold your data for ransom.
I'm not sure what sort of trickery this specific team has in mind, but be sure they ARE NOT HONEST. They are out to TRICK YOU AND CHEAT YOU. Computers do not "call for help" when they have issues, and if they did, these people would not be the ones they would try to contact.
If your computer happens to have issues (most do to some extent) and you feel the need to have it looked at, let an experienced family member or friend tend to it, or take it to a local computer shop in person.
