I got a call from 607-723-9891 asking for my husband and he said he was from Microsoft and they've been receiving error messages from my home computer that it has been hacked. My husband is never on our home computer, its mine so I knew something was fishy. He wanted me to his the Windows key on keyboard and the letter R at the same time and then he wanted to Run from a remote location. I told him to hold on, asked my brother about it and he said it was probably a scam, and the guy had hung up. He did have an Indian accent. I can't get over some people!!!
Caller used a computerized message, telling me the IRS was bringing a lawsuit against me and asking me to call them for details. No way!! I'm certain the IRS would send a written (snail-mailed) missive if this were true. They are pfishing for personal information, I'm sure, which could be used for identity theft. Don't fall for it!!
I received a call twice from this number saying it was the IRS and that I needed a criminal lawyer to call back and there was a lein on all my bank accounts. Both times the message was a recording. This morning I called the number back, it rang twice then said it was disconnected.
