They call several times a day using several different numbers. I add the numbers to contacts and give them a silent ring tone. I think a really old debt was recently sold to them because I used to get calls from a different collection agency. It stopped for a few weeks and then I started getting calls from Portfolio. I don't want to talk to them because I'm not going to give them money for a debt that has been written off my credit report. From what I have researched this company appears to only take on debts that are really old and do not show up on credit reports. From what I understand taking action to pay this debt can actually make it reappear on my credit report.
I feel I am being harassed by this company. I don't think they should be allowed to remain in business. It's not fair that people are having to put up with their calls for years for debts that are either not theirs or are so old that it does not make sense to pay them.
If there is anything I can do to help put this company out of business or at least make them stop harassing people I will.
I have been getting telephone calls following a letter sent one year ago. The debt they claim is over a decade old and getting info from them is difficult? They were asked to verify the debt they are attempting to collect. They were asked to tell me what type of account it was, extend an itemized list of purchases if a charge and to indicate what additional finance or other charges were added during that length of time? I did not hear from them for months and then received a letter indicating it was a charge account and demanding payment? I sent another letter asking that they do not contact me again until they provide verification indicating that I have not owned the account from the bank they are claiming? Any mutual account owned from a previous marriage was paid in full within a divorce settlement but there is no evidence of this particular account? The calls have recently started again following several months of no contact.
They simply say, "If this is NOT...my name...then do not answer this call". I have just recently identified who they are from searching this site and reading the above. Glad I did!
Portfolio Recovery calls me all the time using different numbers, saying I owe a debt on a phone through US Celluar from 2001, who I have never had a contract with,I've had sprint for 10 years. I asked for proof that I owed money or had a contract and they said we are trying to make money not spend money. What does that tell you about this company. I then looked up the statute of limitations which is 5 or 6 years for wi and told them and they hung up on me.
