No, they didn't go to ANYONE'S school. Nor would they come by yours - it's a NASTY scare tactic by these bottomfeeding SCAMMERS to get people to pay without asking questions. Debt collectors cannot "serve" you warrants or court summons, and it's illegal for them to tell you they can/will do so. They make it sound scary because they want people's money and don't want them asking questions before they get it.
Always get debt validation MAILED (not faxed, not e-mailed, not read to you over the phone, it must be MAILED!!) to you, don't just pay someone because they harass you.
What practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
use threats of violence or harm;
publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
use obscene or profane language; or
repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
misrepresent the amount you owe;
indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or
indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are.
Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:
you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;
they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action.
I received a call today, repeatedly from this number and the guys name was Jay Jordan. he threatened me with a subpoena and told me that if i didnt pay 300 dollars by today that they would subpoena me at my job and it would result in my termination. he also said that once i go to court, if i lost the case i would have to spend 8 months in jail. this is a scam people!
This 6209534488 number keeps calling my phone and I want them to stop! I know it is a scam but how did they get my number? I never signed up for anything!
This # just called my place of employment! Threating me that if I did not cooperate they would call back and speak to my manager. I advised them to NOT call me at my place of employment and that I was envocking my Fair Credit Act and to only contact me on my personal #. He then hung up on me! SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been harassing these dirt bags all day! He promised me I would see him at either my home or school by Monday, oh dear Lord let these scum come to my home or school! What jerks just keep calling them and harassing them back, maybe they will get the hint.
I just got back to my desk at work to find a voicemail from a man named Calvin Copeland I had to replay the message twice just in order to understand him (broken english) the message was very threatening, they said I had to call them back or they wish me luck... So I called back and he told me there was a lawsuit filed against my social security number. Totally shocked I asked him what lawsuit and what are you talking about. He then said that he needed to call me right back that I was breaking up over the phone. That ended up being a good thing because it gave me a second to google the telephone number and I found this information. I then turned the tables on him and became threating. I told him you have called my place of business and had the nerve to leave me this type of message....Needless to say he hung up on me. I then called back asking to speak with him and they did not transfer me, I called back again and told them that I would be filing a complaint... Stand up to these people they are scammers and jerks.
