No, they didn't go to ANYONE'S school. Nor would they come by yours - it's a NASTY scare tactic by these bottomfeeding SCAMMERS to get people to pay without asking questions. Debt collectors cannot "serve" you warrants or court summons, and it's illegal for them to tell you they can/will do so. They make it sound scary because they want people's money and don't want them asking questions before they get it.
Always get debt validation MAILED (not faxed, not e-mailed, not read to you over the phone, it must be MAILED!!) to you, don't just pay someone because they harass you.
What practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
use threats of violence or harm;
publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
use obscene or profane language; or
repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
misrepresent the amount you owe;
indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or
indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are.
Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:
you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;
they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action.
So after repeatedly calling them an harassing them yesterday to the tune of 105 calls, their number is mysteriously "busy" today....hmmmm I wonder if they actually got the hint that everyone knows now? Worst part is though, they have my social security number.....checking that credit report left and right!
Same story. I don't know how they got my information but they first called my job and left a message which kind of sounded urgent so I called them back from my cell phone. They told me that I was being served lawsuit paperwork tomorrow at my home and if I wasn't there, my place of business (and had my company name handy) They also confirmed my home address which was accurate. They told me it was regarding my lack of payment to a cash advance company but couldn't identify exactly which one. (But they did read to me what sounded like a legit documentation regarding my rights, what I was being sued for and a lot of other law mumbo jumbo)
When I told them I wanted to pay this up and stop further actions then they placed me on hold and came back after a few minutes saying I owed $600 and how would I like to pay? Then I said I wanted to make a phone call to verify this debt before paying anyone first and that I would need to call them right back and the man on the other line said I was "acting to smart" and that they were "going to proceed with the legal actions" and hung up on me! I called the cash advance company that I actually borrowed money from and #1 I was not being sued and #2 I didn't owe $600. So, I think this is a huge scam!! Just worries me that they have ALL MY INFORMATION. They also said that they were calling from "James & Patrick Lawfirm" or something like that..
So did they come to ur school cus I'm really scare if they come to mu work they say their gonna come to mu work place and bring some paper to sign for my court...cus i don't want to pay whateverw debtq i have with them

here is an update.. i called them back just now and asked them if they had a website and I guess they have caller ID and knew it was me calling..and after i asked him for his website address (very politely I might add) he said "who is this gail? Don't call her again..[***]" and hung up! So, by this, I am guessing this is some sort of scam? Otherwise, I can't imagine a law office conducting themselves in this type of manner!!
