We hear many complaints that "something should be done" or "what about our rights" or "someone has to do something about these calls." Well, all these issues are because WE haven't done anything.
The Feds or State agencies aren't just going to create a law unless they know that consumer rights (privacy, etc) are being violated. That's where we come in.
A law banning telemarketers from making unwanted, unsolicited phone calls was passed many years ago, for about 4-6 months and then was repealed. The telemarketing, advertising and all industries related to the telemarketing industry, a very powerful industry, lobbied, appealed and won. One national petition was circulated, demanding that the remain in effect, asking those who received it to pass that petition on to others opposed to this intrusive, ABUSIVE industry. 160,000 signatures, that's all, just 160,000 signatures.
If we (US, you and me, the consumers, the voters) want to put an end to this ABUS|VE industry, then we'll all need to figure a way to join efforts and reinstate or just INSTATE a law banning these people.
By the way, that law also included, as just a couple of its many conditions, that companies could only call their customers if the customer requested marketing calls, for support calls or anything similar and that companies purchasing telephone serves (i.e. telephone numbers or lines) must register the purpose those phone numbers will be for and that phone numbers (lines) will be used for that company's purposes.
Want to put a ban to these annoying bottom-feeding, scavenger businesses calls. Write letters to your senators demanding, DEMANDING a ban to these calls. This is a multi-billion dollar industry. That means it will take quite a fight to bury these abusive bottom-feeders.
