Six weeks later, two calls from this number appeared on my call log, but the phone did not ring. They were both listed as the same minute. One showed a VOIP number; the other showed no name. I haven't blocked it myself - yet.
After dept. collectors call from automated messaging I received another phone call. The recorded automated phone call said my name and that they are looking to collect dept. and said a phone number to call back. That was a scam since I don’t have any debt. I received another phone call that came in from J2Global and didn’t leave any message on my answer system. It is annoying to receive constant calling.
Just received a call from them on my cell. No one was on the other end! (I didn't hang on that long and their robo-machine may have been cuing up) Just as well. Seems to be trying to sell me unwanted BS and they should go to hell for interrupting my privacy. I can NEVER get this time back!!
Came up as J2 Global Communications on caller ID.Tried calling the number back and got a fax tone. So I wrote a note telling them to "GO F--- YOURSELF" and to stop calling my number. The fax went thru so maybe they got the message.
That is an easy question to answer. The slimebag scammers do not "buy" or "obtain" numbers to call. They use computerized robo dialers that call every number in an exchange in sequence.
So if your number is 212-555-1212, they would have first called 212-555-0000, then 0001, etc. until they called your number.
There's a very good chance you faxed a harassing obscenity to an innocent victim whose fax number was faked, showing up on your caller ID. The other thing you chanced by calling/faxing back is getting your phone number onto a "preferred call list" maintained by scammers who now know your number is live and there is someone willing to engage with them.
