Thanks so much for this info! I too called back and got the recording about "discounted rates on my local newspaper" and indeed, Option 3 is for removing my number from the list. After you choose Option 3, then it asks you to Press 1 if you want to remove the number you called in on and then to Press 1 if you are REALLY SURE you want to be removed (my laugh for the day). It then says "you will be removed from our list in the next 48 hours". We shall see. : )
they called me awhile back after i had subscribed to my local paper. called for days and no message left finally i got sick of all the calls and i finally answered it. she explanined to me that she was from the newspaper and was wanting to renew new my subscription since it had expired. told me that i was negative in my balance and how much, offered me a 'WONDERFUL' discount and asked for my credit card info. i really had no reason to doubt this was a legit call. she even transferred me her supervisor to verify every thing and my credit card number. after wards i was feeling a little weird about the whole thing and sure enough someone had scammed my card number and went on a shopping spree and took me for about $300. I had called each of the merchants to try and figure out how they made purchases without physically using my card. turns out they can put your number on another card (on the magnetic strip) with their own name on it so when asked for id it matches. so BEWARE!!! and here's the kicker, my subscription was never renewed and my account never had a $30 withdraw for a newpaper subscription. AND they have called me twice since then. DO NOT ANSWER THEM. IF YOU DO TELL THE TO FO!! i cant wait actually to hear from them again. :) yeah some call me passive aggressive...lol
I've received 5 phone calls, most of which didn't answer when I said hello, this last time I answered but didn't say anything, it took about 15 seconds and then a woman came on the line saying she was from The Daily Oklahoman. So it was a sales call but I'm curious why an Oklahoma company is calling from a Missouri phone number. Oh well, hopefully they won't call me again.
We don't take the newspaper, certainly not one in St. Louis... caller ID says "RENEW". No message, no one on the line when I answered the phone on their second call. We're on the "No Call" list: your tax dollars at work. NOT.
