I received a call from this joker this morning. He happened to ask if I worked for a company name that I use to sign up for webinars. I only use it for this one particular site. Something tells me they can access some of the IT publications subscription data bases.
I just received a call from this number 646-470-6923 showing to be a New York number to which I am local to. The man had an Indian accent and there were a lot of background noises. He asked my name and if I work for company xyz. I responded affirmative and he hung up. I wonder if this has something to do with Tech Target as I too recently joined that site... Weird, NOT Good!
heavily accented man called asking for my manager by a name he rarely goes by (first flag), when asked for the name of the company he hurriedly says IT something something. I asked what he was calling about and he stalls, hesitates then asks again for Robert (not Bob - no one calls my manager Robert - second flag). He finally gives in and says its about an IT project. I tell him that's not what we do here and we are not interested and he starts to argue (third flag). I tell him to remove us from his "list" and hang up.
So....the phone number calls back minutes later! Rohan asks for Robert (my manager) and when asked for the name of his company, he says Southern Florida University (riiiight). When I ask why he's calling, he asks to speak to Robert, he spoke with him yesterday. Good try buddy, but we log all of our calls. I tell "Rohan" that he did not in fact call and what is it he's calling about. He says it's a survey. So, I politely say, we aren't interested in participating in a survey but thank you. Please take us off your list. He says he didn't say survey. His accent is heavy so maybe he didn't but when I tell him he did he doesn't even disagree but asks again for Robert saying he spoke to him already. I hung up the call. Poor Rohan didn't get far but seriously...he called from the same number as the first dude a few minutes later. Did he think I wouldn't notice?
Well, that's my afternoon entertainment, being politely disagreeable with foreign boiler room calls.
