Msg lft on vm stating that I had 4 serious allegations & if I did not return the call within 30 mins the local cops would come to arrest me.  This call was made on our Independence Day, July 4th around 7:30 in the evening...as you can tell by this comment, it is July 5,2017 & here I am.  No local cops came to arrest me.  Best thing, if you dont recognize # just delete it!

I got a call from this number 646-809-9697 and it was an actual person speaking not robot. He said there is a Tax fraud from my end for the year 2015 and i needed to pay 973$. The is a court notice sent for which i havent taken action and i am going to be arrested in next 30 mins and my SSN and bank account seized if i dont settle the case outside of Court over the call. He is asking me to go to Walgreens and take a Stem card or some card for $500 and %473 and then share it with him. After getting this card in next 30 mins a person from IRS will come down to my house and hand over me the cancelled court notice. This is when i got suspecious like which Government official will come down to each n every persons house. Then eventually i got into an argument with him and said this is fake call and i will be going down to IRS office tomorrow. Frankly speaking its scary he just spoilt my entire day.

Caller I.D. shows the number calling from New York, NY.
I did not answer and was left a partial voice message saying that I had 4 outstanding litigations that I needed to respond to their call or the local cops would arrest me.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.  IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government.     Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes.  Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks or Itunes cards or similar for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.   All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Everyone please note:

Effective in April of 2017, the IRS will start using private debt collectors who may, in fact contact you. Note the IRS will notify you by mail that your account is being turned over to a private group.  The private collector will then send you another letter.  They may call you after that point.
