The person told me that they have received many reports from my computer that I was having several problem and they were going to fix them...when they took control of my computer...without asking permission, I pulled the plug...I don't have a battery... I stated that the electrity went out...they called back three times...I didn't answer, but called my banks and cc companies and blocked all internet access.
I have had this person call on many occasions and told him to stop calling. He never listens. He will put up an argument and be demanding with you. Each call came in at 830 - 900Pm. Roger Williams is his name (maybe fake). His accent is hard to communicate with. No professional business ethics (especially for Microsoft). Told me he had my license number to my computer too. Did not feel safe about giving out info. On mythe computer. He was demanding. Beware.
Aloha
I received a call at 9:00pm on June 20 from an older female who had a slight accent, but not sure what nationality. She stated calling for Microsoft windows operating technical support and needing confirmation on my license id #. I stated I was not sure if she was a scam and to give me her name and number and I would call her back. Name given was Nancy Wilson and the number was (646) 843-6254. I requested the license # she was showing for the error reports and she gave me a very log sequence.
Luckily, I have smart friends I can rely on and I did not call her back.
It is interesting that my caller was an older woman.
I received a call from this number at 9:00 p.m. this evening stating they were with Windows Service Center and proved it by showing me on the computer that they had my id number, etc. I kept questioning this person and was assured they were a service center, and not selling anything and were alerting me of issues with malicious and junk e-mails. They were only notifying me and would show me how to fix it. The man had a foreign accent and did go on my computer remotely and "proved" that I needed the $139.99 software security updated as mine as expired. It is all very real as they scan the computer and it does show a screen with red letters that tell you of this high risk. I was on the phone for 45 minutes with him and did not accept the offer. I said that I would need to research this and got the number to call them back tomorrow. As the others, it is "Roger Williams". It is definitely a scam and I ran my AVG virus on the whole computer as soon as I read these other reports and all seems ok now. But, be warned, do not take this call. In checking my caller id, the call came in from Beaverton, OR and the incoming number is 971-217-9514. When I researched that number, it is a cell phone from New York. It is very scary that they have so much information on your computer.
Got the call on 8/6/12. Same mo as above. Call came in from Kirkland, WA. Caller kept saying he was from Windows and they have been receiving error messages from my computer. Didn't believe the guy so I said I'm not going to my computer right now, give me a number to call you back and he gave me 646-843-6254 but he had to check that number several times. Thought it sounded like a scam so I'm glad I checked it out. Thanks for having this post. If I get the call again I think I'll try to play with his mind like some of you folks did. Thanks for the tips.
I got the same call and got this same phone number to call. My license number is not linked to my phone number so I didn't agree to anything. Told her, Alena Wilson, with a foriegn accent, that I would have my tech guy look into it.
Beware of cold calls.
