I've had an IT tech (Computer Tech Support) for 2 years now. I had an email saying my firewall SW needed uodating. So, I called the number I've always used and for a tech as usual. Well I let them remote into my PC and watched them come up with errors, and the Trojan virus. They even deleted my icon for Computer Tech Support. I told them not to do that but they did it any and said they would update the icon. Once done, she (Brittany) said I could purchase an upgrade to my service for $349.99. I told her I already had a contact and said what is going to happen to the year and a half I have left which cost me the same. She said that's still in place and the purchase was an upgrade with them covering more service. Well I fell for it because I thought it was my tech company. I even filled out the credit card info onscreen and when the receipt was emailed to me the company name was IT RENOVATORS. I captured several screen shots of the text conversation and also of the receipt that came up after I filled out the info.  Since I only have wifi, I lost the call, called back on the number I know and a tech answered. I asked if I could get back to Brittany and he said they had no Brittany. I told him I had been on a call with her and that I paid another fee. Well this person verified through my cell number that they were my tech company and that I had not called them for 3 months with printer hookup problem. He then told me they have had their calls redirected by the other company and for me to stop the payment thru my bank. I did that. I talked to the fraud dept and told him what happened. He said the only reason I was able to get a stop payment was because my tech company told me about the redirected calls. Well needless to say the scam company has been calling me from different numbers and unknown numbers, for 7 days all day long. I finally called back and "Mark Williams" answered. He knew my name from my cell number that showed up (i had my number blocked but their number would not receive blocked calls).  So I told him yes I had stopped payment to them and if they don't stop calling me I would file more charges against them through law enforcement. "Mark Williams" just said ok and good bye and I hung up on him.

I'm just glad my tech support was honest with me and told me what was going on. They said if I need to call them in the future to ask them my confirmation for my account instead of me giving it to them to make sure it's my tech support. I sure hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

"He said the only reason I was able to get a stop payment was because my tech company told me about
the redirected calls."

This is why you need to file a police report; bank employees sometimes refuse to reverse transactions without one. In this situation, the bank was cooperative.

This company has a good scam going for those stupid enough to fall for their line. Their M. O. is to sign you up for $100  to clean your computer with  3 years tech support. After a few days or weeks, when your computer isn't working correctly, you call them back and want a refund. Their method for a refund is as follows . . . You send them a check for $900 and they will send back a check for $1000. Even a feeble-minded senior such as myself would not fall for that one. Their line at this point was that if I didn't sign up for the $200 package, my computer would be blocked and I would lose all internet access. I agreed to the $200 package and, just 2 days later, Microsoft did block my computer because of harmful viruses called koobfaces that had been installed on my computer. These are very malicious viruses that can access personal and banking information and you would think I. T. Renovators would have noticed those if they had cleaned my computer. My only conclusion is that I. T. Renovators installed those viruses. So, to sum up the way this company makes their money - they do a terrible job cleaning a computer - charging the customer - and then when the customer wants a refund, the real scam begins. The Microsoft representative, who did a great job cleaning the computer,  said not to deal with this company for the refunds, but to get them cancelled by the credit card company. I. T. Renovators or UTECH still wants me to send them a check for $800 so they can send me one for $1000 and I am now in proceedings with Capital One to get the $200 refund. The original $100 charge was cancelled already.
