These people keep calling me saying that he is an officer & is working with the state investigator.. They are even calling my work!! Idk What to do but this [***] is annoying! Isn't it a felony for imposing as an officer???
I had a voice-mail from this same individual claiming he was an officer of "state investigations" and that a friend of mine was in financial trouble & had referenced me. My friend HAS had troubles in the past, but there is nothing current that he has going on that I am involved with, which immediately made me suspicious. He also said that if I did not call back soon, I could be "in very big trouble", which also alerted me that something was up, because a true officer of the law would never say something like that. I don't know where this information was obtained, especially considering my cell phone # was not included on the loan I co-signed with my friend nearly 10 years ago, but since all the reports here are no more than a month old, it's obviously something very new. My gut tells me this is definitely some sort of scam/phishing operation.
Ok, I spoke to my friend after posting the first message, and he informed me that he had been looking into a online loan that, after filling in some information (including my cell phone number!!!), he realized that the whole thing seemed rather shady, so he went no further. That is the only way I can possibly imagine that these people got my cell #, because I DON'T give it out to anyone or anything! The same morons called his aunt today as well, since he had entered her info for a reference also. Although I didn't like the fact that he gave out my cell #, I do feel more at ease knowing that they didn't get my information from through some other means!
