Just got off the phone with Jay Harris (very foreign accent). He told me that I owed $2029.86 for tax year 2012 and that there was warrant for my arrest. Oh and he stated he was with the United Department US Treasury -- even had him repeat this a couple of times.
Talked with him for about 10 minutes trying to get things straightened out -- yep, he got the warm fuzzy feeling!!!!! Wished I had my recorder on for this one.
He stated that I could clear things up today by providing my CC and I explain to him that I don't have any credit cards and asked if I could just send a check made out the US Department of the Treasury instead and he said no.
Asked him if the Tax Return that I filed was for a Single person or Married filing jointly. He told me that I wasn't married and couldn't file jointly with anyone. I've been married for well over 20 years!
I finally told him that I had not worked at all during the last seven years and could not possibly owe the money and he tried to tell me that they would get the money owed one way or another.
Once I asked him to verify my mailing address and the last 4 of my SS# he hung up. Now that was a surprise!!!!! Bless his heart!!! Fool, I tell you, Fool.
The SCAM calls are getting worse and worse. I normally don't answer the unknown numbers and am glad I did on this one.
I, too, received a call from this number from Steve Martin. It was left on my voice mail. I did not understand all of what he said. With a thick Indian accent he said something about _____ action from the US. I had to reply or I would appear before a magistrate judge or a grand jury on criminal charges. He urged me to respond and to "cooperate with us to help you". Verizon identifies the number as coming from California. I am in Virginia.
