I've been a CoreStates/First Union/Wachovia/Wells Farg customer for over 25 years. I used to get calls from this number whenever I was driving very long distances on vacation or making large purchases in rapid succession around Christmastime. They have unlocked my card for me in the past once I confirmed purchases.
For the people reporting they don't have a card with them, I strongly suggest that you check for identity theft. Someone may have opened a card in your name. Just because you didn't open a card doesn't mean it's impossible there's a card out there based on your name and identity. Take this seriously.
I only chose "Event Reminder" below because the "Event" was suspicious activity on my card.
got a call while growing ever so frustrated with walmart.com. they just wanted to make sure the purchase I was tryign to make was in fact me. they immediately reset the card, and it worked a minute later.
Probably a phishing scam. Don't call back. Look up Wachovia's real number (as I did) on their website. Someone called from this 704 number claiming there was unusual activity on my card. The Wachovia rep told me that NO so such activity existed and not to reply to that voicemail because the person might be trying to get additional private information about me. Watch out! This is one of the most sophisticated phishing scams I've encountered. If they are using a specific bank name, the rep told me, they have access to a list of names and account types somehow but probably don't have private information *yet*.
It's A Legit Wachovia Phone Number, But It's In The Lobby Of Wachovia And Is Accessible By The Public For Public Use --- Not A Wachovia Business Phone Number !!!
I received a call form this number saying my account was wrong and that they would have to change my account number and would call me back but never called back. I went to the bank and they said this seemed more like a fishing expedition.
