I just received the same call and I was about to pay but I asked for their information to give to my attorney and he yelled and cursed at me. Then I tried to call on another number and the phone line were crossed and the gentleman on the other end said for me to call the attorney general they are fooling you.
These people just called my mother now with the same thing, funny thing is her daughter, me, works for a real law firm. I called them and asked them the name of their law firm and they hung up on me then I called back and they said they were a marketing company. My mother was recently scammed by people like this and its getting ridiculous, they need to be stopped.
These people keep calling from this same number stating the same thing that i am being sued and also that I will be arrested tomorrow. But they give no info on what this is about or who they represent. They are very rude and they are all foreign speaking and when you ask for a supervisor they hang up and then when you call back the number is busy. These are all scams do not offer any info to them just hang up...............................................
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
A "Character" by the name of Alex or Alec called and told me I was being sued. I was so angry because I have gotten calls like this before. He apparently told me the same information that he (or someone like him)has told others that I would be arrested tomorrow. I told him that this was America and I was born and raised here. I know the law and since he was not a citizen, I informed him that he doesn't know what he is talking about. He finally hung up. In fact, he called me twice. I didn't pick up the second time. His number was registered on my caller iD. What a scam!!
