The called twice within a half hour this AM as "Unknown Name". My best approach is never to answer less they believe it's an active number.
I think folks know by now that the DNC is ineffective to say the least. Blocking the number shown on caller id may help unless they have several dozen more numbers! Where does it end?
I agree that reports of continued activity can be useful. My points are:
- Mister Reject behaves like a spammer, the very kind of nuisance he ostensibly hates.
- Returning repeatedly to screech "BLOCKED FOREVER" is both absurd and a cry of vengeance, not adding to collective knowledge.
- The same thing could be accomplished with less clutter for a number thread by summarizing multiple calls across a few weeks.
Anyone with an interest in nuisance call management already knows of the existence of call blockers and maybe uses one. They don't need wall-to-wall "blocked 'em, ignored 'em" reports. The rest of us who prefer a direct approach need "actionable intelligence", not whiny blocker complaints.
The fact that a persistent caller generates annoyance even when blocked signifies a flawed strategy. Silencing the noise is not the same as stopping its source. We should be working toward beheading the snakes, not muffling their rattles.
Not a single comment in this thread bothers to identify the caller or a call purpose, which is the main purpose of this website. We can't go crying "DNC list" and "scammer" without actually verifying that a given caller violates any law. If there are TSR or TCPA or FDCPA violations, they all go unpunished, and the caller makes its payroll from recipients who, for whatever reason, are responding.
A female called asking if I was the homeowner of my street. She mentioned something about a solar program. I told her the truth that I was not the homeowner and she said she would take me off her call list. 30 minutes later a guy with the same # said the same thing. I said the same thing. I worked for an online university once before so I know that "not picking up" or "yelling" at them does not do anything to stop the calls. The leads (phone #'s their calling) can live in their database anywhere from 2 weeks to a year.
