Got my call this morning. This lady called and wanted to speak with me about investing in their newly formed business - Power One, supposedly this is some type of middleman operation - they buy electricity (energy) from your local utility and then re-sell it to the consumer - to (as they claim) offer the consumers a choice and (again, as they claim) a discount from the "monopoly" utility company.
I told this moron that not only was this idea clearly stupid, but that I oppose deregulation of utilities. It's a horrible thing to have happen to the consumers. Just look at what happened with Gasoline. Prior to dereg the price would be stable for weeks at a time, now with dereg it can change multiple times in a day. It's up to the middlemen to decide what to charge. Remember Enron?? They were charging customers $100's of dollars per kilowatt hour for something that cost less than 12 CENTS per kilowatt hour prior to their "deregulation" of the industry. Please explain to me how that is a "win" for the consumer??
The stupidity of their claim is that the consumer will "win" by having so many choices of where they can buy their energy from. Problem? Simple. There will still be only ONE supplier - the SAME supplier that they started with. How can adding layers of middlemen to the situation 'bring down' the cost of energy? That's an insane notion.
I told the caller she was an idiot and that I strongly oppose deregulation of utilities since it is nothing but a losing proposition for the consumer.
Then I blocked the number...along with almost a thousand other telemarketing tele-terrorists.
Answered the phone (i could hear the boiler room in the background) A guy says "Hi, this is Andy". I told him I was sick and tired of telemarketers. He said he wasn't one. I said do no call here again. He said "Can I ask you a question?" I said NO! No questions, just stop calling here. He then said "I get yelled at all day". I said don't call here and you won't get yelled at, now hang up and put me on your do not call list.
