I got a call about a lawsuit in my machine said they would see me in court. The phone number does not take incoming calls. I don't know who to complain to.
WTF?! i just listened to a vm left by this # (714-646-7737) saying i will b arrested either at home or work. no name was given by the caller nor was one mentioned to whom the msg was for. what shld i do bc i do NOT appreciate this type of scare.
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Don't worry about it and disregard anything the message is saying. Arrests aren't forewarned and if it were legit, you'd be hearing much more info than you're getting, not to mention seeing proof in the mail. The trick's to scare you into paying a bogus debt without thinking. Don't appreciate it, set your phone up to block private numbers or pay no attention to it to hear nothing from these clowns.
Not John Hill law firm, or any legitimate law firm. They are Indian or Pakistani debt scammers who call people up and threaten arrest. For one thing, you can't be arrested for being in ordinary civil debt. We do not have debtors prisons in the US. Totally bogus at all levels.
For another, why would a private law firm know one way or another what a public prosecutor is going to do. Private law firms have nothing to do with whether or not a public prosecutor will file a charge or not.
Just legal mumbo-jumbo meant to scare some money out of you. . Ignore and block the call.
Read the other notes. Sad to say, these Indian and Pakistani scammers tend to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community. They are looking for people they think are vulnerable.
