The give-away that this was a robo-call was the extended pause between when I picked up the call and the start of the message. The message was spoken by a "cultured" white male voice, that said "Hello". A comment at another call reporting site indicated that this was a "senior phishing" operation.
This number has turned up some odd companies that seem to have used it, or even are still using it: Primera Clase Taxi of Lowell, MA, and Empire Astoria Electric Co., New York, in Astoria, N.Y. Another check on this number brought up the location Woodside, N.Y. -- no name of a company, though.
I receive numerous calls from this phone number every day. One day they called 5 times. I have tried to call them back to make them stop but I am told the number is not in service.
It sounds like they are targeting seniors.
Tel. No.: 1-718-932-5555. Caller ID: UNKNOWN NAME. A call was received from this number at 2:32pm and again at 2:54pm on 7/2/15. A loud recording of a man's voice with a standard American dialect left the following message on the answering machine both times: "Since you've already been referred to by a friend or family member, we have a personal medical alert system waiting to be shipped out to you. Press 1 now to receive your personal medical alert system. Again, press 1 to receive your personal medical alert system. Press 9 to opt out." Unfortunately, these days it is foolhardy to answer a call from ANY number that you do not recognize (a legitimate caller will leave a message that you can return) or to press ANY digit on these unsolicited scam calls. There is no such thing with these people as "opt out."
Hello folks.
I have been getting these calls too; for over two weeks at a rate of 10 to 12 calls a day. Mind numbing.
Anyhow. The calls are, indeed, robos from the MedicAlert.org call center. Today I was able to find that out because, for once, I could actually hear and understand the person I talked with. I asked politely, for the tenth time since this began, to be removed from the call list. I have also given this information to the SEC. Let's see how this works. I'll up date in two or three weeks.
