The give-away that this was a robo-call was the extended pause between when I picked up the call and the start of the message. The message was spoken by a "cultured" white male voice, that said "Hello". A comment at another call reporting site indicated that this was a "senior phishing" operation.
This number has turned up some odd companies that seem to have used it, or even are still using it: Primera Clase Taxi of Lowell, MA, and Empire Astoria Electric Co., New York, in Astoria, N.Y. Another check on this number brought up the location Woodside, N.Y. -- no name of a company, though.
Got a new phone number, haven't given it out to anyone I know. I'm getting lots of calls including 718-932-5555 from Woodside NY. I didn't answer it. The ringer and answering machine are both off and with the elections coming up, the unwanted telemarketers and scammers I may just keep it that way. I purchase phone service for my personal use not anyone else's.
I think FCC should crack down a few of these people and prosecute them, penalize them. I have got one call today in my home phone and one in my cell despite the fact that i am registered with DNC directory.
They are also using spoofing, it show a local number when they call.
Because scam artists follow the law, never mind that VOIP and Caller ID spoofing has essentially made it extremely difficult to catch these crooks, especially since many are actually from outside the country.
