Got a load of emails very much like the above. Not sure how it works in the states but can't you just contact the telecoms company and complain that the telephone numbers are being used unethically? I suppose the telecoms company would say that they cannot regulate all of their premium numbers (plausible deniability). However in the UK, companies have to show due diligence which means that they have to be able to show that they have done everything in their power to prevent it. If these are premium rate numbers, being unlawfully or unethically used, surely the telecoms company would reimburse users and claim costs from the person setting up the number? Again, if the telecoms company had a six month delay between receiving payment from customers and paying the person who set up the premium account, then that would allow sufficient time to investigate complaints without losing money. Or maybe like most large businesses, they really don't care how they get their money. As stated, I don't know how it works in the states but this is criminal activity. The telecoms company is aiding and abetting this activity and should be held accountable. Turning a blind eye to this should not be a defence in law.
The inbox of my website was flooded with nearly 5000 undeliverable messages sent from my domain name on behalf of this company! My service provider said they "spoofed" my domain name so it looks as though I've sent out all this spam! I reported it as internet fraud to the FBI. I really hope they can do something to stop this company from spamming people while using unsuspecting small business owners' domain names!
If I got got back 5000 emails, I can't even imagine how many they must've sent out!
