I actually had to purchase phones that block more than 100 numbers. Most of these numbers are spoofed. I get calls from the number "1", as well. NOBODY has that phone number! The do not call registry is not working as it should. I gave up reporting all of these kooks a LONG time ago as it was way too time consuming to do so. Besides, how would they even go about investigating spoofed numbers. That's an FBI and FCC issue and I don't think it's on their list of priorities.
There is an effort being made by Consumers Union (they publish Consumer Reports). The effort is a petition to hold the phone companies responsible (at last!) for these phone calls since they do not screen scammers and are making money off their harassing telephone robo calls to consumers.
The petition is to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) to take action to get the phone companies to at least offer free number blockers through their phone system.
Signing the petition is sure to help. Consumers Union has clout because of the numbers.
Please go to www.EndRobocalls.org to end the madness, harassment and scams.
Um ...
There is a full discussion of that petition ... and its probable (in)effectiveness, right here, on 800notes:

Caller ID "Denver CO" ... MAY 12 at 8:56pm Eastern time. This call ended after one ring. It may have been blocked by a free service I subscribe to which is available to most Internet-based VoIP phone service users(I have Time Warner). Google "No more robocalls" to get more information. Also, if you have not done so please sign the Consumer Union petition to help stop ROBOCALLS. See www.EndRobocalls.org
This # has called one too many times. It is beyond annoying. Stop wasting my time and yours. I am not going to answer the phone because I don't recognize the number.
Enough is enough
