I actually had to purchase phones that block more than 100 numbers. Most of these numbers are spoofed. I get calls from the number "1", as well. NOBODY has that phone number! The do not call registry is not working as it should. I gave up reporting all of these kooks a LONG time ago as it was way too time consuming to do so. Besides, how would they even go about investigating spoofed numbers. That's an FBI and FCC issue and I don't think it's on their list of priorities.

I've had to purchase new phones that block over 100 numbers. My list is almost full now. I get calls from the number "1" as well. NOBODY has that phone number. I get these calls and if I DO answer, they hang up. Why bother calling to hang up? I think they are likely scammers in training or something. TOO MANY KOOKS out there these days.
I have had some speculation on this. According to CUB, the cost of maintaining landlines to companies that provide them has become great because so few of us have them anymore. AT&T is attempting to make their cost ENORMOUS to the consumer (as though it isn't already... MUCH HIGHER than a cell phone). I think it could be a way of getting us to get rid of our landlines (once you disconnect a landline, you CANNOT have one reinstalled now).
That's PRECISELY what I've done. I got the Panasonic that blocks LOTS of phone numbers but the list is getting quite full already. I cannot imagine if I DIDN'T have the Panasonics, my phone would never stop ringing. ODDLY, people that I WANT to call me complain that they can't get through or the phone picks up and hangs up. I can't figure that one out at all but I can see by my screen with Dish Network that they DID, in fact call me. The phone just DOES pick up and hang up. I've called myself and it did it.
ALSO... I've gotten phone calls to my home phone FROM my home phone number. That is DEFINITELY a spoof. When I answer, of course, a breathing sound and a hang up. YEESH!
