Got my call from "Britney', and answered her questions in a way to insure I got to an agent. This insures the company running the robocall gets charged a "lead" fee and increases their cost, and get me to a real person as fast as possible. Had a nice little chat with someone from Internet Local Listings (internetlocallistings.com, 1600 N. Broadway, Santa Ana, CA 92701). Don't bother telling 'Britany' you want on their Do-Not-Call list, call them up at 1-949-292-0717 and tell them yourself. You can ask for Sam Riemer, or whoever else will take your call. That way you know a real human has gotten your message.
One thing that confirms my suspicion that they are a scam, there is a "Add to Do Not Call List" at the bottom of their web site. Really. Also, http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/ (California Secretary of State) does not show a business listing for a company named "Internet Local Listings". Really?
They charge $150/month in order to update the meta-keywords and meta-description tags in your web site. Which if you have Wordpress or something, there are several free SEO plugins that will let you do that for free. And they will monitor your keyword searches and click throughs for you. Again, something that's easily done by adding a Google Analytics tag to your web site, again most content management systems have plugins that make that easy.
They probably do a few other things, but most of this (adding your company to Google and Bing Business Listings/Places) are free, and both Google and Bing have a nice web of webmaster tools to show you how you're doing. For free. And there are probably local SEO groups in your city where you can go to learn more.
Brittany, a robot that 'almost' sounds like you're being called by a real person. Solicitation for first-page listings on Google, Bing, etc. I didn't ask the name of the company - had to hang up as robot-girl was continuing with the hard core sales pitch of why my business needs to be found online. lol
This was actually a live person, offering me a guaranteed front-page listing for my business on Google, Bing, and Yahoo. In other words, your typical SEO scam. Calling back gets a "press 1 to be removed" (in other words, to verify your number as a potential target for future scam calls), so at least this is a real number. Agent was pushy and paid no attention to what I was telling her. Told her I was not interested in a scam and hung up.
